What a Queensland Plumbing Licence Covers
Queensland licensing has two layers, and the QBCC issues both. A person doing plumbing or drainage work needs an occupational licence. A business taking that work on also needs a plumbing and drainage contractor licence, which shows financial capacity and training to run jobs properly.
The trades sit on separate licences above and below ground:
Plumber's licence
covers the plumbing work itself, outside the few jobs held behind their own endorsements.
Drainer's licence
covers drainage work below ground level, with the same endorsement rule.
Gas work licence
gas sits apart again, because only a licensed gasfitter may install, alter, repair, service, test or certify a gas system and its pipework.
Before any gas job starts, you are entitled to ask for that licence. Our gas fitter page lists the gas jobs we take on.

Who Checks Plumbing Work and What You Receive
Two authorities share the checking, and each owns a different part of it. The QBCC issues the licences, keeps the register of notifiable work and investigates unlicensed jobs. The local council approves new work, issues permits and carries out inspections.
What lands in your hands depends on the job:
Form 4
after notifiable work, the owner or whoever engaged the plumber gets a copy. One that never turned up can be requested from the QBCC.
Gas compliance certificate
after gas work on a new installation or an alteration, the gasfitter hands it over straight away and sends a copy to the network operator within 5 days.
You can also check us yourself. The QBCC's online registers show whether a plumber holds a licence, and an address search shows whether a Form 4 went in for the property. An owner can ask the council to inspect notifiable work at any stage.

The job decides the paperwork. Notifiable work finishes with a Form 4 copy going to you or whoever engaged us. Gas work on a new installation or alteration finishes with a gas compliance certificate in your hands.
What can I do if plumbing work in Wamuran turns out faulty?
Raise it with us first. If the work looks unlicensed, defective or non-compliant, or a Form 4 never arrived for notifiable work, you can lodge a complaint with the QBCC online.
What does QBCC licensed mean for my Wamuran plumbing job?
The QBCC issues both licence layers: an occupational licence for the person doing the work, and a contractor licence for the business running the jobs. We hold the licences the QBCC issues.
