A sink is a fixture, so each connection is licensed work. Hot and cold lines feed the mixer, a waste fitting seals the bowl, and the trap's water seal stops drain smells reaching the room. Every job is done by a licensed plumber.

Blockages below the floor are a different job, on our blocked drains page. The full room list sits with our kitchen and laundry plumbing service.

From Old Sink Out to Leak Test

A sink hook-up runs through five parts: isolation valves on both supply lines, the tap, the basket waste, the trap, then a leak test on every joint.

  1. Isolation valves

shut the water at the cupboard, so future tap work never stops the whole house.

  2. The tap

takes both supplies through flexible hoses.

  3. The basket waste

seals the bowl's drain from above and locks with a rubber ring underneath.

  4. The trap

holds the water seal against smells rising back up the drain.

  5. Every joint

gets a final drip check at the end of the visit.

A dishwasher sharing the cupboard drains into the waste through a spigot, so a replacement waste carries one. We confirm that before the new bowl goes anywhere.

Tapware, wastes and connectors going into Australian homes need WaterMark certification and a listing on the official product database. We fit compliant stock and can show you what goes in.

Leaks Under the Sink and Around the Tap

Sink leaks start at five points: a joint on the trap or waste, the seal under the basket waste, the tap base, a supply connection, and the seal between the sink and the benchtop.

A trap drip shows up while the tap runs. A weeping supply connection stains the cupboard wall instead. The benchtop seam lets go slowly, and a swollen chipboard edge is usually the first clue.

Signs worth a booking:

  • a soft or swollen cupboard floor
  • a musty smell hanging in the cupboard
  • a water mark under the trap or along the back wall
  • drips that only appear while the mixer is on

Spongy cupboard floorboards mean a slow leak has been at work for months. Caught early, the repair is a reseal rather than a rebuild.

Who May Fit a Kitchen Sink in Queensland

A licensed plumber must fit a kitchen sink in Queensland. A brand-new sink, or a move to another spot in the room, counts as notifiable work, which is plumbing the QBCC must be told about. There is no council permit, and we report it to the QBCC by Form 4, inside 10 business days of wrapping up.

A straight swap at the old position is minor work instead. Still licensed tradework, with no form and nothing to lodge. The QBCC's own owner summary puts fixing or replacing sinks firmly in the licensed column, and a sink never appears on its unregulated list.

The QBCC's online registers are public. Any owner can check a plumber's licence there, or confirm a Form 4 registered for the property.

Some unit and apartment renovations require a council permit instead, so raise that with us early. Renters have their own rule, covered in the questions below.

How the Sink Style Changes the Job

Top-mount and undermount bowls differ at the cut-out: a top-mount bowl rests on its rim over the benchtop, and an undermount bolts up beneath it. The style changes what happens under the bench, not the connections themselves.

A top-mount bowl hides a rough hole, which suits laminate tops and keeps the fit simple. An undermount needs clips or support brackets carrying the bowl's weight, with the cut edge showing, so that edge has to be exact, with a silicone seal.

Benchtop material decides how much of the job is plumbing and how much is finishing. That is one reason the quote follows a proper look at the job.

What Changes the Price of a Sink Job

Five things drive a sink quote: whether it is a like-for-like replacement, any new water or waste point, access under the sink, the benchtop, and the tap and fittings. We inspect first, then set the price as a fixed quote in writing.

The like-for-like replacement is the simplest end of the scale. Moving the bowl, or adding a second one, means fresh lines and the Form 4 as well.

New kitchens keep arriving among older homes here, too. Area-level approvals counted 14 dwellings in 2021-22, and plenty of the existing housing along Newlands Road and the older streets off the D'Aguilar Highway still runs its original bowls, wastes and mixer hoses.

No street sewer runs through this district, so every kitchen drains to its own tank. A shifted waste point adds load that system was never sized for, so we check the tank before designing any new run. Our rainwater tank plumbing page covers the supply side.

On the go-ahead list, a new mixer belongs with the bowl. Our tap replacement service fits the mixer, a water filter serves the drinking spout, and the machine hookup sits on our dishwasher installation page.

How a Kitchen Sink Visit Runs

  1. 1

    Describe the problem

Phone (07) 3523 7172 or fill in the form with what you're seeing in Wamuran. The more we know, the better we can prepare.

Kitchen Sink Questions From Wamuran Homes

Call (07) 3523 7172

What does proper kitchen sink installation involve?

A licensed plumber shuts the supplies, takes out the old bowl, then hooks up the new tap, waste fitting, trap and both lines. Every joint gets a drip check before the cupboard doors close. In Queensland, all of it is licensed work.

What is a Form 4 for a new sink?

Form 4 is the notice we lodge with the QBCC within 10 business days after notifiable work wraps up, and a new or relocated sink counts. You receive a copy for your records. A like-for-like swap needs no form at all.

How much does it cost to put in a kitchen sink in Wamuran?

The price depends on where the bowl sits, any new water or waste point, cupboard access, benchtop material and tapware. We inspect the job, then quote a fixed price in writing. A straight swap sits at the simpler end of the scale.

Why is my kitchen sink leaking underneath?

Usually a joint on the waste, the basket waste's own seal, the tap base or a supply nut lets go. Spongy floorboards or a musty smell down there mean the drip has been quiet for a while. We trace the wet to its source and reseal it.

Who pays for a new sink in a Wamuran rental?

The landlord or agent books the plumber, since the duty to maintain the home sits with them. A renter needs the landlord's signed consent, through Form 23, before a fixture is attached, and that consent cannot be refused without a fair reason.
